So What Is Flock Anyway?
Here’s an excellent review that answers the above and quite a few other questions…obviously Flock will change rapidly during its development period and the developers have already said that they wish to provide alternative solutios for each case where an external service is employed.
Yes You Can Import Bookmarks Into Flock
It isn’t available as an automatic system but there is a workaround:
How I manually import my FireFox bookmarks…
In Flock
- File -> Open File…
- Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\USERID\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\SOMETHING.default
- Select bookmarks.html to open.
- Right click and choose “Star This Link”
- Add my tags and that’s it.
Similar trickery works with SeaMonkey, K-Meleon and any other Mozilla based browser.
Yes I know…you have to star each link individually…thing is this is a good thing. Why is it a good thing? …because that way you can exclude any duplicates and, more importantly, any private/sensitive links…an auto-importer would publish everything. It might be as well for you to go through your delicious favourites and do some judicious editing in case there are some public links that you would rather were not there!
Flock: New Version
If you are using the first official developer pre0.5 release (v0.48) then please make sure that you do an update as v0.49 is now available.
Being an alpha build there is a snag…you need to delete your profile from the old version before installing a new version (sadly that means all your settings will be toast.) Your plugins and extensions will also be gone as will any local history etc. You will need to re-enter your delicious account and any blog or Flickr acounts.
The deletion of profiles is necessary as the versions change so much and so old profiles may well be incompatible with and corrupt new browser versions…normal with alpha builds.
New Photo-Sharing Site
Flickr has a few rivals but this looks to be one of the better ones…it comes with several features that Flickr lacks…notably a downloadable custom image uploader featuring drag-n-drop image addition…very swish.
One downside…it’s very Flash heavy…won’t work without Flash too. That’s not a particularly clever system to choose but it won’t be too much of a problem for most users.
The system is currently in beta and while it is a beta it will offer free premium accounts…a good reason to sign up now
Einstein pics…write your own text
A fun site with a nice little gimic..take an existing Einstein pic and add your own text to his blackboard Link
First (past the) Post
Seeing as the new Flock browser makes blogging so attractive I thought it was an ideal opportunity to give it a go as it were.
WordPress is my platform of choice and is well supported by Flock…it’s a good day today.
Anyway…this will probably be a blog full of links to the odd and not so odd on the Internet…if you want other things to be featured here then please ask via a comment or several.
